As serious breakfast champions ourselves, we put together a list of our favorite breakfast spots around town, replete with every detail you’ll ever need about them. And without any restrictions based on area, budget or cuisine type.

Salt Water Cafe

Timings: Daily, 9am to 12.30pm.

It’s the kind of place that serves breakfast all day so whether it’s a snack on the way to work or a late, boozy brunch, this is still one of the best leisurely options in town what with their endlessly varied menu and their incredible selection of freshly baked breads.

Good Luck Cafe

Timings: 7 AM to 12 Midnight

Treat your taste buds to the delightful flavors of Mughlai and Lebanese dishes and fast food at Good Luck Restaurant, a casual style eatery located at Hill Road opposite Mehboob Studios in Bandra West. Some of the dishes in its menu that are worth trying include keema, chicken tikka and biryani.

Cafe Madras

Timings: Rs. 7 AM to 2:30 PM, 4 PM to 10:30 PM

The place remains unchanged and consistent despite Matunga’s changing landscape. Whilst some may complain about the cramped space , the waiters who are as crisp and too the point and not particularly warm, the food is outstanding. The menu is limited but every item there is superb. The owners are very sweet and always take an effort to help you.

Theobroma- which means ‘Food of the Gods’ is the sweetest little bakery cum cafe on Colaba Causeway. Theobroma serves a wide range of sweet and savory patisserie, sandwiches, desserts and an exclusive range of premium chocolates. The cakes and desserts include fresh-cream pastries, fruit-flavoured cheesecake, melt-in-your-mouth gateaux, souffles and mousses. The shops also sell flaky croissants, puffs and cornets.

“Suzette” is a fun word to say, making your lips first pucker, then smile, it is also the name of Nariman Point’s new creperie. The menu here involves treats exported from France, predominantly sweet & savoury Brittany-style crepes. Also summer salads, juices, “Smoozies”, tea & coffee.

Kyani & Co.

Timings: 7AM to 8PM

Conversations over coffee at hip caffeine chains may be the new culture now, but much before they came into existence, an Irani café was a place where people met for conversations over chai. Known for their fluffy omlettes and mawa cakes, the erstwhile Irani cafés—furnished with bentwood chairs and marble table tops—defined an era of low-priced eateries in the financial capital of the country.

Prakash Restaurant

Situated in the most state-proud part of the city, Prakash has become one of our favourite joints for real, authentic Mahrashtrian breakfasts, which can otherwise be translated into vadas, vadas, and more vadas. And we’ll throw in some Batata Pohe for good measure.

Fat Man’s Cafe

Timings: 9AM to 11:30PM

When Fat Man goes to the gym he likes to eat healthy and this was our mission to gorge on the “healthy” food we could dig in at Fat Mans Cafe. A look through the menu reveals regular deli fare and more – an all day breakfast range, salads, burgers, appetizers, sandwiches and mains that include grills, pasta and some Mediterranean fare.

The Bagel Shop

A few years ago, a little cafe on the hill turned the improbable dream of fresh bagels into a reality, transforming the breakfast habits of countless Bandra-ites overnight. Here, freshly baked bagels are sold plain, or come slathered with cream cheese and salmon, peanut butter or Nutella. Add in free Wi-Fi and great coffee, and you’ll know why Bagel Shop – Bread for your Head is the best thing since, well, sliced bread.
